Music Theory

We believe that excellent musicianship is best achieved with a strong foundation of music theory. A comprehensive understanding of scales, key signatures, chord structures, rhythm, harmony, and voice-leading enables students to learn and understand music faster, as well as compose and improvise. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, we provide numerous opportunities to deepen your musical knowledge.

Certificate of Merit:

As members of the MTAC (Music Teacher Association of California), our instructors offer admission to the annual Certificate of Merit exams. These exams are generally held in early Spring and involve written music theory, ear training, and performance of a broad range of classical repertoire. Students benefit immensely from this experience in their journey to become a more well-rounded musician, and it looks great on college applications, too!

AP Music Theory and Audition Prep:

Tutoring is available for advanced students preparing for the AP music theory exam or college auditions. If you or your child feel ready to dive deep into advanced harmony, voice-leading, sight-singing, and ear training, we’re ready to help sharpen your skills and put you on the road to success!
