OVERVIEW:

Students at Long Music Academy will make steady progress towards their learning goals, whatever they may be. From the casual learner who wants to learn a musical instrument to unwind at the end of their day, to the student whose goal is to be a consummate professional, all can expect to steadily advance their skills with the right amount of effort. Come and partake in the joy of music making!

Long Music Academy, formerly In-Home Piano Lessons, was founded by David Long in 2005, and has proudly served Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties with the mission of enriching people of all ages and backgrounds with the gift of music.

HOW WE TEACH:

For piano students, you will be given a foundation for learning based on Western classical traditions. Scales, harmony, and music theory will be a consistent thread throughout our learning, and will constitute roughly half of our lesson time. The other half will be focused on music chosen exclusively by you. Whether you want to learn pop, film music, video game music, etc., teachers will adapt their teaching styles to student’s strengths and interests.

Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Drum students are taught primarily using rock and popular music from the 1960’s through to the present. Scales and chord structures will be a mainstay of our learning, however there will be more emphasis on absorbing as many songs as possible, as well as cultivating your ability to improvise and play by ear. Students are encouraged to share their favorite artists and songs to their teacher to make things more fun!
